eBay MyWorld - Web 2 version of "About Me/MyeBay"
eBay has a new section in community called "my world" that is a myspace-ey kind of thing where you can create a bio, link to your ebay blog and a bunch of other social networking kinds of things.
It's not working right now, but there is a screen shot you can see there. It's not clear how other users will find your MyWorld info (an icon next to your userID/feedback or ?) so that will be interesting to see.
While many sellers wonder why aren't there any improvements being made to the core search, buying experience or automated trust-and-safety things like S+H, if you add up the dev hours in Blogs, Wikis and now My World, (ok throw eBay Express in there) you could have done 2-3 major overhauls of the site.

One thing I believe is worth noting from a buyer perspective. I've been buying more than I used to in the past in the last 6 months because I've been trying to study eBay more. What I've noticed is that the shipping prices are so expensive that I back right out of the site when I see it. I want to start selling and I've checked shipping out so I know full well that a lot of the shipping is too much for the product. On the other hand the seller is trying to sell the product for little of nothing to outsell the competition or whatever their reason to make the sale. So, what I'm saying is the customer is going to catch on. If not right away then later. I don't care how low their price is. I won't pay silly overblown prices for shipping but I will pay whatever I decide I can afford to pay if the seller wants to put a price on something and I will play the bidding game and decide my final bidding price. Is there just too much competition on eBay?
Also, times are not easy for a lot of people. It isn't the same economic times as it was before for the middle and lower income people. They HAVE to find the cheapest prices. I can understand why the buyers want the cheap prices and I also can understand the sellers view. I don't understand the shipping inflated prices though. I don't know eBay's overhead but it would seem they could try to help the sellers out a little with their charges.
Then again, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about at all. *S*

I don't understand why all these resources are being expended by eBay, on things that do not improve the Selling Price, do not bring more Buyers, and do not improve the long-term viability of the site...???
eBay is in a slow downward spiral, prices are dropping, more sellers are getting frustrated, Buyers are not willing to pay even reasonable prices anymore - they expect a steal, Fewer Buyers (nothing seems to be going on to improve the number and quality of Buyers on the site)??
And much energy is being wasted in Blogs, Wiki, and now MyWorld, not to mention eBay Express and ProStores. And now China is failing miserably after spending millions of dollars (Dollars that OUR fees paid for, and could have been spent on improvements to the core experience or to reduce fees ~~~!!)
Oh well...

They should have done this when they first came up with the About Me pages. Customers love to see who they are buying from. Nice post.

All they need is one overhaul of the site and that has not been done since 2001. Ancient technology and the big heads at eBay wonder why. Absolutely amazing.

eBay continues to harp on the Community aspect of the site forgets that 98% of its revenues come from 2% of its sellers. And in many ways eBay is the worlds online community of yard salers.
