eBay's BIG DEAL
Tonight eBay took the wraps off a new promotion called Big Deal. Disclaimer: We are working with eBay on this promo as mentioned in the AB post. At CA we're pretty excited about this program because we think its good for buyers. What's good for buyers is good for everyone in the eBay ecosystem.
Why is this good for buyers?
- The deals change every day, thus bringing buyers back to the site day after day. It's always good to have a hook vs. waiting for consumers to need something.
- The deals are designed to be from different categories. We see that buyers frequently only shop and buy in one category. This program has the potential to expand buyer activity into multiple categories.
- eBay frequently has the best price on items, but because of the finding experience and millions of listings, buyers many times don't find the deals they are looking for. By bringing some of these front and center, it will not only highlight the deals, but hopefully also educate buyers on what to look for.
- With all the bad press recently about fraud, fakes, etc. many new buyers come to eBay, look around and don't "activate". By putting some great sellers and pre-screened deals in front of buyers they are more likely to have that first eBay purchase which is hopefully the first of many with increasing ASPs!
We've been suggesting this kind of thing for years and it's exciting to finally see it come to fruition.
The CA-sourced deals kick in Friday so stay tuned...
So, either your link is broken or ebay is no longer doing the Big Deal. I liked the idea but it looks like ebay has already scraped it.

Looks pretty horrible on Firefox! Button labels don't even show.

The UI is pretty bad too! Whats the point of the Home and Bookmark links? And what are those funny triangles for?
